Gent played for Ohio from 1988 to 1992 and helped OSU win two Big Ten titles during his time at Columbus. He was known for his headstrong hustling style, which drew sympathy from Buckeye fans before heading to the NBA in a very short career that saw him win the ring with the Houston Rockets in 1994.

It was in training that Gent had more success. He had several NBA stops as an assistant and two different stints at Ohio State. In 2015-2016, he was the head coach of the NBA Development League’s Bakersfield Jam.

The last time Gent was an assistant with the Atlanta Hawks was in 2017 until he was picked up by Los Angeles.
