Fulham will host Manchester United at Craven Cottage on Sunday as both teams aim to return to the Premier League.

Marco Silva’s Fulham got off to a great start to the season as Premier League newcomers picked up 19 points but lost last time to Manchester City. Nevertheless, summer residents surprised everyone and will want to enter the break in the World Championship with even greater enthusiasm.

As for Eric ten Hag’s United, they lost to Aston Villa last weekend and it was a wake-up call for the Red Devils. United have had a bit of a slump since their resurgence but are still only three points behind the top four and have a game in hand. Not bad.

Key storylines

Fulham are having a great time in their day and Aleksandar Mitrovic is finally scoring goals at this level, but his recent injury is worrying summer residents. Mitrovic’s injury is a big part of their success, but also a good set this summer. Bernd Leno, Issa Diop, Joao Paligna, Andreas Pereira and Willian have played a big role and Silva’s team is strong but also very dangerous on the counter. As for United, they are probably exactly where we thought they would be under new manager Erik ten Hag. After a slow start, the fact that they are within reach of the top four before the break is a good achievement. ETH hopes that last weekend’s loss to Villa was nothing more than an accident.

Uniform players to keep an eye on

Fulham’s spine played a decisive role in their great start to the season: Mitrovic, Paligna and Leno were excellent, while Diop fit in well and Willian was a real spark in attack. However, Mitrovic may not show up, so Carlos Vinicius will have to stand up straight. USMNT duo Tim Rome and Anthony Robinson also had very good campaigns. For United, Casemiro dominated midfield, while Luke Shaw scored against Villa last time and was more solid and Diogo Dalot excelled on the right flank. Marcus Rashford also looked much better, but he was disqualified for this collision.

Fulham team news, injuries, squad options

Harrison Reed and Kenny Tete are disqualified, which is a blow, but Bobby De Cordova-Reed is back, which is an incentive. Manor Solomon and Neeskens Kebano remain on the sidelines, while Aleksander Mitrovic is recovering from an ankle problem and will not take any risks as the World Cup approaches.

Manchester United Team News, Injuries, Squad Options

Diogo Dalot is suspended, Raphael Varane is recovering from a knee injury, and Anthony and Jadon Sancho are having doubts. All of this means the likes of Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek and Alejandro Garnacho are all expected to be in the squad, while it will be interesting to see who plays right back as Lindelof could shuffle and Maguire can start with a central defender.

What we learned from Wolverhampton vs Arsenal

Odegaard at his best clinical manifestation: Martin Odegaard is a technician. Sometimes he’s the team’s metronome. On other occasions, he was asked to open a difficult, tense backline. But the Norwegian has also shown a willingness to shoot when ready, with Ødegaard scoring six goals in 13 Premier League appearances this season on Saturday. That’s one short of his best Premier League result set last season and two short of his best ever league result of scoring eight times for Vitesse Arnhem in the 2018-19 Eredivisie…
