Warsaw Poland. Fifth-placed Caroline Garcia advanced to the semi-finals of the Poland Open on Friday after breaking Igi Swiatek’s 18-match clay-court winning streak.
Garcia won 6-1, 1-6, 6-4, crashing Swiatek in the 10th game of the deciding set, her first victory against the Pole.
Swiatek has not lost on clay since the quarter-finals of the French Open in 2021.
Frenchwoman Garcia staged a semi-final match against Jasmine Paolini, seeded 10th. The Italian beat Victoria Golubich of Switzerland 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Lucky loser Katerina Beindl recovered from the set and upset eighth seeded Petra Martic 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. The next Ukrainian will meet Ana Bogdan from Romania, who beat another lucky loser, Brazilian Laura Pigossi, 6-1, 6-1.
