Headed into the spring, you had to be one serious hoops junkie to know anything about Garwey Dual. Amazing what a month can change as Dual is now one of the hottest names in the class of 2023.

A native of Texas who now attends Carmel (Ind.) High, the 6-foot-5 combo guard didn’t play huge minutes as a junior. This spring with his grassroots team George Hill All Indy he’s hit his stride and blossomed into a high major prospect and somebody capable of making his way into the national rankings. For Dual, it is all about enjoying the game and letting the rest take care of itself.

“My mindset is that I’m really out here just trying to have fun,” Dual told 247Sports. “My junior year I wasn’t having fun as much but now I’m really having fun and I think that has just helped me out overall.”

Long and athletic, Dual has proven to be a problem off the dribble for anybody trying to stay in front of him. He’s still got room to get better there and as a jump shooter but his physical tools are big time so we are talking about a guy with a lot of upside. Arizona State, Fresno State and TCU all offered within the last week joining others like IUPUI and UAB. Texas has also reached out and a lot of it has to do with how good Dual is on the defensive end.

“I just want to guard the best player,” said Dual. “Whoever the best player is on the other team, I want him. I feel like I can get to the rim off the dribble against almost anybody.

“I think my biggest strength is how I can create for my team. Where I’m weakest right now is in school ball where I need to translate what I can do into the game like I do during AAU.”

Because his recruitment is just starting to take off, Dual hasn’t been on any campus visits and he hasn’t gotten far enough down the road with any schools to have any favorites or deep ties to one program or another. He just wants a chance to play at the highest level possible.

“I feel like I can play with the best,” said Dual. “I’ve got a little bit of a chip on my shoulder when I go out there. I’m just looking for somebody to give me an opportunity.”
