In accordance with Friday morning reportThe Gators are entering an ocean of schools that are in “regular contact” with switch forward Keyon Brooks Jr. As a former top 25 prospect from La Lumiere in Indiana, he was prolific during his college career but fell short of the top spot. -round waiting so far.

After spending the first three years of his college career with the Kentucky Wildcats, Brooks is exploring options for the year ahead. So far, he has closed almost nothing in his re-enlistment as the conferences featured the SEC, Big Ten, Pac-12, and Big East. Brooks is also publicly mulling a return to Kentucky or hitting the NBA.

Brooks has been on the portal since the end of April, showing season results that accurately reflect what he did in 2020-2021 on the stat sheet, but twice as many games. He’s a scorer first and foremost, scoring 10.8 points per game, but it’s all on the inside. His performance on the arc, or lack of it, accounted for less than one shot attempt per game.

From a player with Brooks’s physique, you tend to expect more rebounds than he gives. In this case, I am ready to issue a jail release card. Friend or foe, with Oscar Chibwe on the court, it’s incredibly difficult to influence the game. Stepping out from under the shadow of his former teammate will change the situation, and his rebounding pieces should flourish.

I would like him to improve his game in how often he hits the free throw line. Drawing fouls is a skill and he has the physique to make those skills work. At 6ft 7in who has gained a lot of muscle mass since the day he set foot on a college campus, Brooks should be ready to do some of the team’s dirty work.

With two scholarships open and a portal full of helpful players, there’s no reason not to expect reports of this nature to trickle down to the Gators. They had already added four players from other programs, and Golden had no intention of taking off the gas pedal. Don’t be discouraged if Brooks goes in the other direction – he’s a talented and useful player, but Todd Golden seems to know what he’s doing.
