Gauff, Fritz advance to quarters at Indian Wells

INDIAN WELLS, California. Coco Gauff bounced back from her loss in the third set to beat Swedish qualifier Rebecca Peterson 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 on Tuesday to reach the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open.

Down 2–4, Gauff fought back and saved three break points, serving at 4-all before shutting out the match in the next game.

Four years ago, Peterson smashed the 14-year-old Gauff at the Challenger tournament in Michigan.

“She beat me up really hard,” Gauff said on the court. “I think it was really a psychological state today, just to stay in the match. At some points I didn’t play my best and didn’t serve as well as I would like, but I think my mentality kept me in the game. .”

Next, the No. 6 American will play No. 2 seeded Arina Sobolenko, who beat No. 16 Barbora Kreychikova 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.

In other matches of the fourth round, Maria Sakkari, who finished 7th, beat the 17th seed Karolina Pliskova with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.

For the men, defending champion Taylor Fritz advanced to the quarter-finals by defeating Marton Fuksovich 6-4, 6-3.

No. 5 Daniil Medvedev outplayed Alexander Zverev with number 12, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 7-5.

No. 10 Cameron Norrie beat Andrey Rublev with the sixth seed, 6-2, 6-4.
