Gauff win sets up Swiatek match in Dubai, Sabalenka loses

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates. Coco Gauff set up a semi-final match against Iga Swiatek in the Dubai Championship, beating Madison Keys 6-2, 7-5 on Thursday.

Swiatek, who was in the last four after Karolina Pliskova was withdrawn due to illness, plays against Gauff 5-0 and beat the 18-year-old American in last year’s French Open final. Gauff has yet to win a set against the three-time Grand Slam champion.

Gauff, who placed fifth, relied on her consistent pitching and capitalized on the Keys’ mistakes in their All-American quarterfinal matchup. Keys committed 51 unforced errors.

Barbora Kreychikova upset runner-up Arina Sobolenko 0-6, 7-6(2), 6-1. Sobolenko, the Australian Open champion, went on a 13-game winning streak and took a 3-1 lead in the second set before Kreychikova’s comeback. It was Sobolenko’s first defeat this season.

Krejcikova, the 2021 French Open champion, will face Jessica Pegula of the United States in the semi-finals. Pegula, who placed 3rd, advanced after Karolina Muchova withdrew due to a stomach injury.
