Paul vs. Rahaman Jr. was originally booked for £200 as a replacement bout after visa issues prevented Paul’s original opponent, Tommy Fury, from entering the United States. The fight was then rescheduled to compete in the 205 lb weight class due to Rahman Jr.’s weight concerns, before being canceled entirely a week after fight night when Rahman Jr.’s team allegedly asked for a catchweight concession of 215 lb. In a previous statement, Paul’s management team, Most Valuabale Promotions, argued that Rahman’s assurances regarding his ability to gain weight “were not made in good faith.”
