Hate your favorite team’s rating in ‘Madden’? Now you can call and complain about it

Have you ever wondered why the people who make Madden video games hate your favorite team? Now is your chance to let them know. The people behind Madden NFL 23 set up a hotline Thursday where fans can call and scream into the void about player and team ratings… no, really.

The company posted the number on Twitter and said that around 1,000 fans had reached out with complaints and suggestions to improve player ratings.

A call to this number leads directly to voice mail. Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson tells fans they have called a “ratings adjustment hotline”. He asks fans to leave a detailed message about which player deserves a different rating and why you think so. He adds that fans are better at citing facts that the Madden team didn’t take into account. This appears to be the only way to get the attention of ratings regulators.

Johnson seems to leading charge to the hotline, although the “Madden” team has recruited dozens of players and celebrities to promote the number.

What is the best way to change the rating of the Madden player?

Madden’s rating regulators are looking for real, legitimate criticism of the game’s ratings. Urging them to change Zach Wilson’s rating because you think “that dog” in him probably won’t work. Referring to specific plays or analytics may be the way out. If a player has a high success rate against certain surfaces, perhaps you can quote those numbers. If a player showed a dramatic improvement in the second half, note the games in which he showed something more.

After all, there is no guarantee that the people in Madden will take your advice. Despite all the controversy caused by the ratings that Madden clearly promotes and enjoys doing, the people who work as ratings adjusters take their job seriously and put in a lot of work. They are probably aware of the Pro Football Focus measurements and may even be aware of the narrower extended stats. Coming up with a persuasive argument is likely to be harder than you think.

Besides, we’re still talking about the video game here. Resenting your team’s best wide receiver getting 81 instead of 84 is a pretty minor complaint in today’s world. If you have the time and energy to devote them to passionate arguments, more power is for you. If not, you can always make your own personal adjustments once you get this year’s version of the game.
