No. 9 Alabama was on the wrong end of one of the biggest upsets of the college football season last week when he lost to No. 7 LSU. The Crimson Tide is now looking to get back on track as it travels to Ole Miss No. 11 in front of a hostile crowd at Vought Hemingway Stadium. Alabama has lost two of its last three games, including the overtime thriller “Tigers in Death Valley” in Week 10. farewell week last weekend.

There is much at stake here. Both teams face the New Year’s Six bids, and the winner will move up the pecking order, effectively securing a spot in one of the season’s top games. For Ole Miss, even more is at stake; a loss to Crimson Tide, combined with LSU’s victory over Arkansas earlier in the day, would hand over the division title to the Tigers.

Alabama vs. Ole Miss: Need to Know

What is the status of Bryce Young? The Alabama quarterback and current Heisman Trophy winner is working on a 100% comeback from a shoulder injury last month against Arkansas. Young has struggled against LSU from time to time and coach Nick Saban knows the rest of the offense isn’t helping him.

“Everything indicates that he is telling us, me, the medical staff that he feels good, that he is fine,” Saban said on Monday. “I guess you would have to ask him to really understand how he feels, but he tells us that he is fine. We need to work better with Bryce. We must better protect it. We can’t let people push his pocket. We need to work better with routes so that we can be sure that people will do exactly what they are supposed to do.”

Ole Miss is in the top four SEC teams in terms of sacks and tackles per loss, and there’s no doubt that building pressure will be the focus of the insurgent defense. Empty possession against Ole Miss can cause big problems, and Alabama’s offensive weakness doesn’t mesh well with Ole Miss’s defensive strength.

Major rebels: Ole Miss has 16 passes at least 20 yards this year, fourth in the SEC. Receivers Malik Heath and Jonathan Mingo are great players and have benefited from the Rebels’ fast-paced attack that moves quickly and provides safety in the box.

“They make a lot of explosive plays in the passing game because they run very well, which is not abnormal because you have to play to stop the run.” Saban said. “They do a good job of taking shots from those running plays, so it makes it very difficult.”

Ole Miss has the same philosophy as Tennessee and we all know what happened to the Crimson Tide against the Volunteers. If the Rebels can set up a run early, quarterback Jackson Dart will have a chance to chop and dice the minor Tide.

Where is the motivation?: The last time Alabama practically fell out of the national title was in mid-November 2010. The Crimson Tide have lost two of their last three matches, and to be honest, the fire didn’t feel like a minor issue at all. Saturday night in Death Valley. They were promoted to the game out of pride and Saban is hard at work making it through this week in practice.

“I think it’s a challenge for all of us to have pride” Saban said. “We’re going to be playing a good team this week and I’m sure they’ll want to say, ‘We beat Alabama too.’ So it’s just a matter of whether we let it happen or do our best to avoid it because Ole Miss has a really good team.”

Saban has learned to succeed under pressure. However, it is usually pressure to win at the highest level the sport has to offer. The desire to save face is something completely different.

Take the Ole Miss and the glasses, but you won’t need them because the Rebels win right away. The Rebels’ multi-dimensional fast-paced attack will succeed early on, pulling Alabama’s defenders into the box, and Dart throwing overhead shots. At the same time, the Ole Miss defense will have enough success in applying pressure to leave Alabama behind the sticks. That’s bad news for the Alabama team, which hasn’t performed well on the road. Prediction: Ole Miss +12
