What you need to know
The Arizona Wildcats have not won a game against the Utah Utes since November 14, 2015, but they will be looking to end the drought on Saturday. The Wildcats and Utah will face off in a Pac-12 battle at 7:30 pm ET at Rice-Ackles Stadium. Utah should still be feeling good after the win, while Arizona will be looking to make amends.
Arizona lost 45-37 to the USC Trojans last week. Arizona’s loss came despite a quality performance from quarterback Jayden de Laura, who scored three touchdowns and 380 yards in 43 tries, as well as 54 yards on the ground.
Special teams scored 11 points for Arizona. K Tyler Loop played a perfect 3v3 game.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn’t a dominant performance, the Utes beat the Washington State Cougars 21-17 last Thursday. Utah QB Bryson Barnes threw him as he passed for one TD and 175 yards on 27 attempts in addition to rebounding 51 yards on the ground.
Utah’s defense was also up to the mark as they passed the Cougars’ offensive line and sacked QB four times for a total of 21 yards lost. In front was D. E. Van Fillinger and his two sacks. Fillinger currently has 5.5 sacks in eight games.
The Wildcats are clear underdogs, so they’re hoping the size of the fight will determine this fight. However, those who like to bet on underdogs should be happy to hear that they are 4-2 against the spread when a loss is expected.
Arizona’s loss dropped them to 3-5, while Utah’s victory extended them to 6-2. At an average of 37.38 points per game, Arizona didn’t quite prove itself defensively. Let’s see if they can patch up the holes in their defense ahead of the upcoming competition.
