Big Ten Tournament title, 26-6 season record and current 2nd in AP Top 25 quite a summary of 2022-23 for Iowa Hawkeyes Lisa Bluder, head coach of the women’s basketball team.
Playing in the NCAA Tournament with the opportunity to play the first two rounds at home at Carver Hawkeye Arena is just the beginning of the goal Bluder has set for her team this season. With all these goals, recognition began as she was named one of the ten finalists in the competition. Naismith Trophy. Bluder was honored with this award in 2019.
The Naismith Women’s College Coach of the Year Award was established in 1987 and is presented annually to the best basketball coach after voting by the Atlanta Tipoff Club Selection Committee.
Bluder has a career record of 463–242 (.657) as head coach of the Hawkeyes and an outstanding overall record of 819–384 (.681). She is also one of five current coaches with over 815 wins, one of only 14 female coaches to ever reach that mark, and one of only 25 coaches (male or female basketball players) with 815 wins.
Also up for the Big Ten award is Indiana Hoosiers head coach Teri Moren. She led Indiana to a Big Ten regular season title, a 27-3 overall record, and a current No. 3 in the AP Top 25 in the nation.
