Thanks to an impressive performance on the AAU circuit with the MidPro Academy, and perhaps also some urging from Iowa’s only team in 2023, Moline High School point guard Brock Harding has received an offer from the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The 6-foot, 155-pound point guard is ranked as a three-star rookie, the No. 33 point guard in the nation and the No. 7 player from Illinois. 247Sport. Harding is a teammate from Iowa and passes Owen Freeman, who is also ranked as a three-star prospect, the 134th player in the country overall, the 30th power forward and the 3rd player from Illinois. 247Sport.

As Sean Bok of HawkeyeInsider pointed outthis is a significant offer for Harding in part because it came after Harding’s primary Iowa recruiter left the program.

It was longtime Iowa men’s basketball assistant coach Kirk Spero. Following Spehr’s retirement, the Hawkeyes turned over Harding’s hiring to new men’s basketball assistant coach Matt Gatens.

“When Spero saw me in the winter, he liked that I could pass, dribble and shoot. He liked that I was in control of the ball. I was fast, but never too fast when I couldn’t control myself. I controlled the game perfectly, spoke and was a real point guard. This is what they wanted, be it me or someone else from another class. That’s what they thought they could see me doing there,” Harding told HawkeyeInsider.

Suffice it to say that Gatetens and Iowa still really liked what they saw. Now time will tell if Harding follows in Freeman’s footsteps by joining the Hawkeyes.

One thing’s for sure: Harding understands how he’ll fit into Iowa and thinks they’ll be a good match.

“I love that they have five guys on the court who can always score. They play up and down and get hit up. This is where I can really influence the game by going up and down rather than just playing half the court. I’m really good at making things for myself and others, and I feel like they’re doing it with all five guys,” Harding told HawkeyeInsider.
