Undrafted free agent Andrew Mavis didn’t get off to a great start in the NFL.

Four days after his first training camp, Mavis was expelled from the Jacksonville Jaguars after he conceded three field goals during the team’s warm-up Thursday. Michael DiRocco of ESPN. One of these field shots reportedly missed the target so badly that it hit former Dallas Cowboys head coach Dave Campo in the shoulder, and the other two didn’t even get close to the goalposts.

Campo, 75, was an assistant coach and quarterbacks coach with the Jaguars from 2005 to 2007 and is currently a USC Trojans consultant and local radio personality. He coached the Cowboys from 2000 to 2002.

Mavis was undrafted by Iowa State and spent his first three seasons at Fordham before playing for the Cyclones. In college, he hit 40–61 field goals, including 20–23 in 2021, and scored two extra points at the 2022 Senior Bowl.

Now, if Urban Mayer was still the head coach, maybe he would have done more than just fire Mavis. The former Jaguars coach reportedly kicked Josh Lambo last offseason and then cut the veteran kicker after Lambo missed several tries during training camp.

Luckily for Mavis, all he got was a notice of termination and some embarrassment about hitting a passerby. It appears that Josh Allen’s comments about the “professional locker room” regarding the Jaguars’ new regimen under head coach Doug Pederson are, after all, correct.

The Jaguars signed veteran kicker Elliott Fry to challenge Ryan Santoso for the starting kicker spot.
