The Jets will play Joe Flacco for at least another week. According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, Flacco will get a start in Week 3 at home against the Cincinnati Bengals.
This move really isn’t a surprise at this point. The Jets have consistently stated that they will not rush Zach Wilson back until he is 100% healthy. The goal has always been Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
On top of that, head coach Robert Saleh told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero that the team would need Flacco’s disastrous play to consider replacing the quarterback in Wilson’s absence. Sunday was Flacco’s furthest away from disaster, throwing for 307 yards and four touchdowns, including two in the last two minutes, to pull off a shocking comeback against the Browns.
Of course, there’s no guarantee that this will be Flacco’s last game with the Jets, but there’s no guarantee that it won’t either. It all depends on how well Wilson will progress this week and next. The only thing that’s certain is that Flacco will be at least one more time on Sunday when the Jets play the defending AFC champions and, surprisingly, the Cincinnati Bengals 0-2.
