Kevin O’Connell says he can’t put into words how much he respects Bill Belichick

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell was selected by the Patriots in the third round of the draft in 2008 and spent a year and a half in New England. Patriots coach Bill Belichick.

O’Connell, who will be coaching Belichick over Thanksgiving, said he’s still studying notes he made when Belichick coached him 14 years ago.

I still have old notebooks with team meeting notes that are always a pleasure to browse and review,” O’Connell said via star tribune.

How much respect does O’Connell have for Belichick?

“You really can’t tell how much I respect him as a person, as a coach, as a leader, what he meant to this league,” O’Connell said.

O’Connell didn’t have much of a playing career – playing two games as a rookie and then never playing regular season games again – but he’s off to a good start as a coach. And he credits Belichick with part of that success.
