Knicks guard Alec Burks reportedly undergoes another foot surgery

“New York Knicks” checked the market for trading Alec Burks while getting almost no pay back, part of their effort to clear a spot in the cap to get away from the free agent quarterback. Jalen Brunson (or, otherwise, maybe Kyrie Irving).

That’s probably why the organization didn’t announce it: Burks had surgery on his foot. Fred Katz of The Athletic broke the news, which was soon confirmed by others.

The Knicks season ended on April 10.

What will worry teams considering bringing in Burks is a history of leg problems, as pointed out by Jeff Stotts of In Street Clothing.

More broadly (and something mentioned by Nate Duncan) in a league that forms partnerships with gaming organizations as part of its business model, transparency matters. The Knicks’ season is over and this particular situation hasn’t directly impacted any games, but the Knicks’ silence speaks to an internal conflict between teams looking for an advantage and players needing transparency. This could be a major problem for the league in the coming years.

The good news is that Burks should be ready to go next fall (although there are rumors that he might slow down at the start of camp). Wherever he plays.
