Kobe Bryant’s game-worn rookie Lakers jersey could go for $5M at auction

Another piece of Kobe Bryant memorabilia could be sold at auction for millions.

Bryant’s number 8 jersey for the Los Angeles Lakers, worn by the late superstar to home games during his 1996–97 rookie season. featured in the Spring Premier 2022 set from SCP Auctions. which will last until June 4th. This is the only T-shirt known to have ever been paired with a photo of his rookie year, according to an email from SCP Auctions.

The auction site estimates its sale for $3-5 million. CEO/President David Kohler confirmed the $5 million mark at TMZ Sport. The jersey is gold with purple trim and has two patches on the bottom for Lakers and Champion sizes.

Bryant’s jersey matched the 1997 playoffs.

Pundits matched form with five games, including two playoff games when Bryant was a rookie. SPC Auctions stated that he was matched against games 3 and 4 of the Western Conference semi-final games with the Utah Jazz on May 8 and 10, 1997.

“All three authenticators have finally matched the purple and gold threads with these two games,” SCP Auctions said in a statement.

The Lakers won Game 3 and lost Game 4. They lost the series in five games. It was Bryant’s first playoff appearance. He appeared in 16 playoffs and won five NBA championships.

The jerseys were also matched for the April 13 and 17 regular season games.

“Most experts agree that the jersey was worn at the end of Bryant’s rookie season, as well as in every home playoff game that year,” SCP Auctions said in a statement.

Bryant’s signature jersey from the same season sold for $3.69 million last year, a record for a basketball uniform. The jersey record is a 1920 second-hand Babe Ruth New York Yankees T-shirt sold in 2012 for $4,415,658.

The auction also features Adidas sneakers, designed by Bryant from the game when he was a rookie. There is also a signed and “highly sought after PMG”, an autographed Mint 9 card that is “the first and only known example ever to be offered publicly,” according to the auction house.

“It is quite possible that this is the only copy in existence, period,” the auction house said. It may very well be the only one in existence, period. “This is a more scarce card than even his unsigned PMG BGS NM-MT+ green card sold in February for $2 million.”

Auction includes used in game Kobe and Michael Jordan double auto map, Tom Brady novice refractor, 1986 Flier Jordan map, and Joe Burrow novice map. Up for auction are Bryant’s autographed 2004 NBA All-Star shoes, photo-edited LeBron James Lakers two-game 2021-2022 sneakers, and a pair of Giannis Antetokounmpo sneakers from the 2020-2021 championship campaign.
