There is reason to be optimistic that he is ready to take the leap. Coach Kyle Shanahan explained to reporters on Saturday what Aiyuk is doing to improve.

“He’s evolving in everything he needs to do to get better,” Shanahan said. “He comes off the ball every play, he runs at full speed every play, he is no longer slow. He doesn’t sit there and fight guys with his hands. He does it with his feet, with his hips, creating edges by running, breaking. If you want to open up in this league, you have to be very aggressive in how you run, how you kneel on the ground, and so on. And it’s very hard for guys. They do it three days in a row, and sometimes they have to take a week off. That’s why it’s so important how these guys prepare. And it’s hard when we’re not around him but BA, he did all this when he was away from us, he did all this during the OTA and his body can handle everything he does and that’s why he’s getting better”.

As a rookie, Aiyuk had 60 catches for 748 yards and five touchdowns. Last year, he caught 56 passes for 826 yards and scored five points.

The Packers hoped to take Justin Jefferson or Aiyuk before the 49ers traded for him. This move greased the skids for the move to catch the quarterback Jordan Love.
