Kyrie Irving finally agreed to a deal with the Brooklyn Nets on Monday afternoon, and somehow he thinks that makes him “different.”
Irving, after seemingly countless rumors and speculation about what he’ll be doing next year, is reportedly planning a $36.9 million contract with the Nets for next season. This came after reports of a “stalemate” between Irving and the Nets front office, reports that he was potentially looking to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, and more.
However, Irving, apparently telling The Athletic’s Shams Charania about the deal, dropped a really weird quote.
“Normal people keep the world alive, but those who dare to be different lead us into tomorrow,” he told Charania. “I have made the decision to sign. See you in the fall. A11 eleven.
Trying to make yourself look revolutionary for accepting almost $37 million to live in Brooklyn and play basketball is definitely one way to do business.
The sports world naturally had many jokes at the ready. With a quote like that, it’s hard to blame them.
