Laying out the updated Pac-12 Championship Game matchup scenarios after Week 12

In fact, Saturday’s Pac-12 conference game list more or less served as the Pac-12 championship semi-final game. With the USC Trojans taking on the UCLA Bruins and the Utah Utes taking on the Oregon Ducks, it was pretty clear that day that the two winners would be in the driver’s seat to make it to the conference championship game in Las Vegas.

Both USC and Oregon won. Does this mean they will automatically meet in early December for the first time this season? Not really.

The Trojans are on the case since they don’t have any more conference games left, but the Ducks are still in the game from getting the nod for sure. Here’s an updated look at everything that could have happened in the final week of the regular season, and who else could make it to the title game:

The Trojans sealed the deal on Saturday night with a thrilling 48-45 victory over UCLA. USC does not guarantee first place in the conference and the title of “home team” in the championship of neutral venues, but, nevertheless, they won a place in Las Vegas.

Oregon ducks in the game if…

The Ducks will earn a seat in the Pac-12 title game if they beat Oregon State in Corvallis next week. This game will be played at 12:30 pm PT on ABC. If the Ducks lose this game, they can still make it to the title game if Washington State can beat Washington.

The Apple Cup won’t start until 7:30 pm PT on ESPN, so the Ducks won’t find out their fate in the game formerly known as Civil War.

Washington Huskies in action if…

A lot has to happen for the Huskies before they can get into the title game, but it’s not impossible. Washington needs to take care of business first and beat Washington State. If that happens, they will need Oregon State to defeat Oregon and for Cal to defeat UCLA.

If Cal doesn’t beat UCLA, the Huskies could also get in if they beat UCLA and Colorado beat Utah.

Utah Cliff will hit if…

Utah’s loss to Oregon effectively forced them to stay on the sidelines, waiting for the title game. A lot has to happen for them to give preference to Las Vegas.

Like this. Utah needs to beat Colorado, Washington needs to beat Washington State, Oregon State needs to beat Oregon, and UCLA needs to beat Cal to create a three-way tie between Ducks, Huskies and Utes. This would give Utah the highest cumulative winning percentage in conference games among conference opponents between 3.

Just win baby

If Oregon can beat the Beavers, then they’ll make a deal and get their long-awaited matchup with the Trojans. If that doesn’t happen, the Duck fans will become the biggest Washington State fans in the world, hoping they beat the Huskies. It shouldn’t be hard to root for.
