There were eight and now there are four teams – all from the Premier League – remaining in the 2022-23 League Cup after the semi-final draw held on Wednesday.
Newcastle beat Leicester City when Dan Byrne joined Joelinton on the scoresheet and Jamie Vardy missed two late chances to bring the Foxes back into the match.

League One side Charlton Athletic, the last remaining lower league side, lost 3-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford thanks to a goal from Anthony and two late counts from a hot Marcus Rashford.
Earlier Wednesday, Nottingham Forest beat Wolves 4-3 on penalties. The Saints then put on a signature game of the season – perhaps the kind it took to start off a poor start in the Premier League (20th after 18 games) – to beat the two-time reigning Premier League champions and the winners of five of the last seven leagues. Cups, 2-0.

Key storylines and (young) star players
Few players have been good and consistent in the Wolves roster. One such player was Ruben Neves, who must be getting impatient at Molineux. Perhaps Matheus Cunha can become the club’s fire candle in attack.
Can West Ham get something from their forwards with Gianluca Scamacca potentially out of the squad? His midfield has been a strong point as Declan Rice, Lucas Paqueta and Tomas Soucek are the envy of many clubs. But Jarrod Bowen’s goals and assists have plummeted and Moyes is still looking for the right combination. Saeed Benrahma is tied in the team league for Premier League goals with three goals and scored in the FA Cup win against Brentford. Maybe his time has come.
