LeBron James has missed the last five games for the Los Angeles Lakers with adductor strain, but it looks like he’s close to making a comeback. On TNT Wednesday’s game between the Lakers and the Phoenix Suns. Chris Haynes reported that James would return to the roster in the next game on Friday when the Lakers travel to San Antonio to take on the Spurs.

James was out of action for five games and the Lakers managed without him. In this stretch they are 3-2 after opening the season with a score of 2-9. Anthony Davis has picked up some slack this stretch, averaging 32.6 points and 17.4 rebounds per game since James was out.

Even with Davis’ good performance, the Lakers need James if they plan to make a playoff return. Their three wins without him were against the Pistons, Nets and Spurs, relatively easy opponents. The Lakers simply don’t have enough stellar power and sustaining shooting to keep up with the best teams in the NBA with one Davis, and the Suns proved that on Tuesday by beating them.

James returns to a moment that could help the Lakers gain momentum. They end November with two games against the Spurs, one against the Pacers, and one against the Trail Blazers. If they can win three or four of those games, they’ll be within .500 range and the season could be saved. If LeBron manages to stay healthy, maybe he will.
