Liverpool’s transfer news continues to pick up steam as there is one key area where Jurgen Klopp and the Reds want to step up in January.

With the arrival of Darwin Nunes in the summer to help limit the impact of Sadio Mane’s departure, it looks like Liverpool are looking to add another big name to midfield in January. But maybe they also want to boost their already ridiculously strong attack!?

The Reds were so close to the top four in 2021-22 so improving the squad will not be easy, but after a shaky start to the current Premier League campaign, they need more depth, especially in midfield. With their current owners looking for additional investment or a potential sale of the club, perhaps this will limit their business in January?

Jan 17 – Ruben Neves remains linked with Liverpool.

This wouldn’t be a transfer window if Ruben Neves wasn’t linked to leaving Wolves, would it? The Portuguese midfielder is currently Molineux’s skipper and leads the table after the appointment of Julen Lopetegui. According to a report from Football insiderLiverpool want to sign Neves this month as his contract runs until the end of the year. This means Wolverhampton will still receive a very large transfer fee for him, but this is nowhere near the $120 million they quoted the clubs.

Given Liverpool’s difficulties in central midfield this season, Jude Bellingham is believed to be their preferred long-term target. They probably need Neves and Bellingham together to rejuvenate their midfield and push them to at least the top four. Can we see how it goes? It would be crazy if Wolverhampton sold Neves this month as they struggle against relegation. However, if the offer is large enough, they may sell. (Japan)

Jan 16 – Jurgen Klopp outraged by transfer questions

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is the club’s mouthpiece and the club’s mouthpiece would like to stop answering questions about transfers.

“It must be a language problem,” Klopp said. “You must be asking these questions over and over and over again,” he told reporters. via Liverpool echo. “I have already answered it so often. Let’s look outside. It’s not that we’re stubborn and think, “That’s it. We will go with these boys until 2050.” It’s not how we see it.”

Klopp said he forgave the reporters because he knows their bosses are asking them to ask about transfers.

“We are clearly behind. I know this, but I can’t sit here and blame everyone else. Players, it’s my responsibility to perform. This is my first concern, my first job. … Yes, we must step up. Oh yes, but isn’t it time to do it? I can’t see it because of the situation we’re in.

“I think I know exactly how things are, that’s all. I can’t change my answer every week because the situation doesn’t change even when we lose another game after the last press conference.”

Liverpool have brought in Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Fabio Carvalho on a permanent basis, as well as loaning Arthur Melo. Last season they bought Luis Diaz and Ibrahima Konate.

The Reds looked as confused as a breakfast hound after losing to Brighton at the weekend, a setback that Klopp says was the worst performance of his managerial career. (New Mexico)

Jan 16 – Liverpool linked with discount for Ruben Neves

There are reports that the Wolverhampton Wolverhampton contract situation for Ruben Neves could give Liverpool one last discount at Anfield.

Somehow, the Reds have been able to sign below-market players quite often, but that’s the simpler explanation: Neves has only 18 months left on his contract and Wolverhampton might want to cash in now.

Neves is a sensational midfielder, but Wolverhampton are potentially risking their Premier League status, although they may think the Julen Lopetegui system can thrive without Neves.

For the Reds, this is no problem, even in the world of Klopp’s money complaints (see update above). (New Mexico)

Dec 29 – Liverpool linked with Moises Caicedo as Brighton charge big

Brighton & Hove Albion’s strong and inexpensive midfield is the envy of much of the Premier League, but the latter adjective makes Roberto De Zerbi’s club vulnerable to big money contenders.

That will be a problem as clubs like Liverpool look to solidify in the January transfer window and an Instagram “like” post from one Moises Caicedo fuels the transfer rumor mill this Thursday.

Liverpool are said to want the ever-vigorous 21-year-old Ecuadorian to help rejuvenate an aging squad led by Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara.

Caicedo, learning from Fabinho, could be Jurgen Klopp’s perfect fit at Anfield, and the young and ferocious midfielder could also take some lessons from Jordan Henderson.

A pay raise and Champions League opportunities would make a one-minute fall worthy of a sacrifice for Caicedo, and it could be worth $30-40 million less than Enzo Fernandez. (New Mexico)

Dec 28 – Liverpool confirm Cody Gakpo signing

Official: Cody Gakpo plays at Anfield.

Liverpool announced Gakpo’s arrival on Wednesday in an interview on their website, with manager Jurgen Klopp praising the Dutch striker.

“There is a lot to like about Kodi. He is only 23 years old, but he already has a lot of experience. He captained PSV, he was Dutch Player of the Year last season, and as many have just seen, he also had a great World Cup with his national team. So, it is clear that he is already a very, very good player, but his age also means that he has the potential to become even better. Offensively he is very versatile and on top of that we know he is a smart footballer as well as a smart person so we are very excited to be able to work with him.”

There could hardly be a better time for this move, whether you are discussing from a club or player point of view. Injuries to Luis Diaz and others have opened the door for a strong player with the ability to make an instant impact, and Gakpo has certainly shown at the World Championship that he is in his game.

Maybe that’s the difference for the Reds as they race ahead in both the Premier League top four and the UEFA Champions League?

Dec 26 – Liverpool in ‘preliminary talks’ with Cody Gakpo.

So so so. Just when it looked like Manchester United were about to sign Cody Gakpo, it looks like arch-rivals Liverpool are about to swoop in and sign the Dutch winger.

His current club, PSV Eindhoven, have confirmed that an agreement has been reached and Gakpo is heading to Liverpool for treatment.

Initial report from Time said the talks were “advanced” as they hope to coax their rivals into signing the Dutch star, who did well at the World Cup. The 23-year-old is expected to travel to Liverpool soon for a medical. Athletic an initial fee of around $45 million was agreed with PSV Eindhoven for Gakpo.

What place will Gakpo take at Liverpool? Since Liverpool already have Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino in the attack, it will be intriguing. Gakpo, Nunez and Diaz will be Liverpool’s striker trio for the next five years if all goes well, and it’s a trio full of cunning, intensity, clarity and directness. It’s a surprise move from Liverpool but it fits perfectly into their recruitment model and Gakpo looks like the kind of player who is ready to break big and score 20+ goals in a Premier League season. As with Luis Diaz, Liverpool were ahead of their rivals. (Japan)

December 22 – A big offer to come to Argentine star Enzo Fernandez?

Liverpool are constantly linked with Jude Bellingham and the quartet of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara, who are either at or close to sunset…
