Ben Skowronek is not your typical receiver. He doesn’t change the game of the pass catcher in any way, but his newfound versatility as a fullback hybrid has really fired up the Rams offensively.
He showed off this unique set of skills in one Sunday game against the Cardinals. Lined up close to the formation, Skowronek beat JJ Watt before entering his route. But he didn’t just cheat Watt. He laid him down on his back. Skowronek then caught a 4-yard pass on 2nd and 9th.
It’s a game that some tight ends make, but not many wide receivers can put a 290-pound defensive end on their back, even if it was a chip block that Watt wasn’t expecting.
The photos are just as good as the videos.
Skowronek finished the game with four catches on four targets, leading the team with 66 yards. He was also the leading blocker on a 14-yard touchdown by Cam Akers, knocking linebacker Zaven Collins out of the game with another good block.
He’s not a receiver like Cooper Kupp, but Skowronek prides himself on being a good blocker like Kupp.
