As a multiple World Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion, Mackenzie Dern has some of the most obnoxious grappling skills in the entire sport of mixed martial arts.

So it’s safe to say that the 29-year-old UFC featherweight has a more than reasonable say when it comes to ranking the best submission specialists in the sport. When asked to name the best jiu-jitsu fighter in the UFC, Dern didn’t hesitate to single out the best lightweight, Charles Oliveira, praising the way he adapted his wrestling specifically for MMA.

“In my opinion, the best jiu-jitsu in the UFC is Charles Do the Bronx,” Dern explained. Fighter vs Writer. “Because of his jiu-jitsu in MMA. In jiu-jitsu he was not a black belt world champion or an ADCC world champion or whatever, so in the jiu-jitsu world he was not the most famous guy in jiu-jitsu, but in MMA, for me, he is the best jiu- jutsu in MMA.

“[He has] most innings, knows how to play on the back, knows how to play on top. If you want to know about the best jiu-jitsu in MMA, Charles Do the Bronx.

Now, Dern will pay tribute to another Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner growing up in tournaments where she constantly competed in one form or another of grappling.

“The best jiu-jitsu athlete currently in the UFC is tough, but ‘Durinho’ Gilbert Burns is for sure,” Dern said. “His jiu-jitsu game, when we were in the jiu-jitsu world, people would stop to watch him fight. The world champion, ADCC, is crazy and he can do it in MMA. The jiu-jitsu guy throws punches, he goes forward, he’s not afraid of punches, he has his takedowns and all that.

“I think the highest rated jiu-jitsu fighter in MMA right now is ‘Durinho’, but the best jiu-jitsu fighter in MMA is Charles ‘Do Bronx’.

It’s hard to argue with Dern’s logic, looking at the ridiculous resume Oliveira has put together, especially in recent years.

He holds the record for the most submissions in UFC history at 16, he is the second most submission attempted behind Jim Miller, and he is one of only two fighters in the UFC along with Frank Mir to ever perform a submission using six different techniques. (back exposure). choke, guillotine choke, anaconda choke, arm choke, triangle choke, triangle choke).

Oliveira even managed to improve his game during the current 11-fight seven-submission winning streak, including two title fight victories. He is also currently ranked as the best lightweight in the world by the MMA Fighting Global Rankings.

“He’s definitely matured as a fighter,” Dern said of Oliveira. “He’s been in the UFC for almost 10 years. You can definitely tell that he’s really reached that maturity as a fighter, smart, confident, strategic, now it’s all kind of connected. He received a black belt in MMA.

“Whenever we move up in the belt – white belt, blue belt, purple belt – sometimes we are good at our defensive game and then we start working on our passing game, maybe purple belt and then brown belt, we many views work. By the time we get a black belt, we can be good at everything, and I feel like that’s where he’s really good. I don’t think he will lose the belt for a while.”

As she moves forward with her own career and her October 1 bout against Yan Xiaonan, Dern admits that Oliveira has been a big inspiration to her.

She explains that it’s not only because he has the deadliest arsenal of submissions in the sport, but it’s also largely because of his perseverance, which helped him go from mid-level talent to the best lightweight in the world.

“[It took] 10 years [for him] to get to that point — now he’s there. He is the best in the world,” Dern said. “There is no doubt about that. Even just his story, his journey definitely inspires me. Be calm, take your time, learn every fight. Sometimes Charles gets a little swayed and pulls out the guards. It’s that I’m learning to play smart. Well, if I get rocked, don’t stand still and try to get him back. You can take out the guard. Let’s see if they enter your guard.

“All this time and experience you get. 100 percent, I can connect and be inspired by Charles “Before the Bronx”.
