Manchester City host Fulham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday as Pep Guardiola’s men aim to return to the top of the Premier League table.
At least until Arsenal play again.
City took care of business last week when they beat Leicester City and even without Erling Haaland they remain an incredible team that is almost unstoppable. After beating Sevilla midweek in the Champions League, Guardiola will want to win those last two Premier League matches before the World Cup break to keep the pressure on Arsenal.
Fulham have played without fear on their return to the Premier League, and Marco Silva’s side have their own high-scoring striker in Aleksandar Mitrovic. The Summer Residents are in seventh place in the table, only five points behind the top four. Who could have predicted this!?

Manchester City shift gears ominously and even with some injuries, the squad they put together is so strong. Two points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal is nothing to worry about for Guardiola’s side and they will feel very confident in the second half of the campaign. So is Fulham, as Silva has done a wonderful job and they are almost halfway to the magical 40 mark. This is an incredible achievement for a newly promoted team, and this team has newfound resilience while their offensive talents are also at their fullest.
Uniform players to keep an eye on
Kevin de Bruyne continues to shine, as evidenced by his impressive free-kick at Leicester last week, while Rodri dominates midfield and Rubén Dias and Joao Cancelo dominate defensively. Fulham’s Mitrovic is causing all sorts of problems, while Joao Paliña and Andrés Pereira have been great additions to the midfield, as well as testing the duo of Willian and Bernd Leno.
Manchester City team news, injuries, squad options
The big question mark is Erling Haaland, who has missed City’s last two games with a minor ankle problem as he has now recovered from his illness. Kyle Walker and Calvin Phillips remain on the roster, but both are working hard to get back before the World Championship break. Manuel Akanji has a knock and has doubts. All things considered, 17-year-old Rico Lewis (who made his mid-week debut and scored in the Champions League win against Sevilla) could start on the right, while Julián Alvarez could stay on top if Haaland isn’t fit enough to start. .
Fulham team news, injuries, squad options
Bobby DeCordova Reid is suspended after receiving five yellow cards, while Leyvin Kurzawa and Manor Solomon remain on the sidelines. Kenny Tete should replace DeCordova Reed on the right. Fulham suffered a serious injury midweek when winger Niskens Kebano tore his Achilles tendon in training and will be sidelined for extended periods. Dan James will likely start in his place.
