TORONTO – Blue Jays right-hander Alec Manoa left Friday’s start against Detroit in the sixth inning after being hit by a right elbow Jonathan Shoopreturned.
Manoa, an All-Star for the first time, went 11–4 with a 2.24 ERA in 19 starts.
One Shupa hopper deviated from Manoa to shortstop Santiago Spinalwho first climbed out when Manoa stepped off the back of the mound, wincing in pain.
After a conversation with a sports coach, a frustrated Manoa walked off the field. He was replaced by a lefty Maiza Team.
Manoa allowed four runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out four.
Manoa went 9-2 with a 3.22 ERA in 20 starts as a rookie last season.
