COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland has hired a former A&M coach from Arizona and Texas. Kevin Sumlin as coordinator of the joint offensive.

Sumlin, who was also a head coach in Houston, will become the Terrapins’ deputy head coach. He will train titles and also help in attack.

Sumlin was 35-17 at Houston in 2008-11 and 51-26 at Texas A&M in 2012-17. He was only 9–20 years old in Arizona before being laid off in 2020.

Sumlin comes to Maryland after a year as coach and general manager of the USFL’s Houston Gamblers.

“Kevin brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our staff and I’m thrilled to have him join our program,” Maryland Coach. Mike Loxley said. “I have been in a relationship with Kevin for over 25 years. He has an amazing football mind and a proven track record of player development and winning at the highest level.”

And EnosMaryland’s previous offensive coordinator, was hired for the same job in Arkansas this offseason.

COLUMBUS, Ohio. Ohio State said it has canceled a home football series with Washington that was scheduled to run in 2024 and 2025.

Ohio State initiated the move and will pay Washington, a Pac-12 member, a $500,000 fine by February 2025, athletic director. Jean Smith said. The cancellation would allow the Big Ten program to add an eighth non-conference home game in the 2024 and 25 seasons.

“I have a lot of respect for the University of Washington and director of athletics Jennifer Cohen and it was very difficult to do so,” Smith said.

Ohio’s 2024 schedule won’t be officially announced until October. This could include a conference game against new members of UCLA or USC when they move from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten this fall.

An expanded 12-team college football playoff also begins with the 2024 season.
