Mitch Trubisky is considered a favorite among Steelers quarterbacks, unless he’s a rookie. Kenny Pickett exceeds expectations in training camp. But there’s a third quarterback in Pittsburgh, and Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada says that this quarterback, Mason Rudolphevery opportunity is given to win the job.
Canada said at 93.7 The Fan that Rudolph is very struggling for this job.
“Mason is now doing second reps, almost equal, maybe a little less than Mitch. He is given a very fair chance. By this point in the camp, perhaps, it was exactly equal. At times Mason played a lot of pranks, at times he played very well for us. He has a great chance. That’s how they treat him. His history with our games, with our system is positive for him,” Canada said.
Rudolph is entering his fourth season with the Steelers while Trubisky and Pickett are rookies and Rudolph has played 10 games in Pittsburgh. Rudolph is better known to the Steelers coaching staff, which could give him an advantage, although the reality is that the Steelers will be disappointed if neither Trubisky nor Pickett look good enough in camp to beat Rudolph.
