Gamrot (20-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) is set to face Arman Tsarukyan (18-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC) in a bout of rising lightweight contenders on Saturday at the UFC Apex. The main card airs on ESPN after the prelims on ESPN2.

The Polish fighter said he was “honoured” to be at the top of the rankings for only his fifth time for the company, but the timing is right because he is “now in his prime”.

Therefore, people were surprised that the UFC chose to pit Gamrot and Tsarukyan against each other at this point in their careers given their future potential. However, Gamroth said that this was the result of no one else agreeing to fight them. Now that this is happening, he intends to put on an epic battle.

“No one wants to fight Armand, a lot of people are afraid of him,” Gamroth told MMA Junkie and other reporters at the UFC Wednesday on ESPN 38 media day. “No one wants to fight me. We will meet together in the octagon. He is an excellent fighter. Good hitter, good wrestling, but I think jiu-jitsu is his weakness. I’m a more experienced guy with five rounds. I’m used to pressure. I was the champion (in KSW) and I think it will be a great show.”

While a spectacular finish would be important for Gamroth, he said he wasn’t going to force anything that could make him lose. He is preparing for a fast-paced fight that lasts over 25 minutes and if he manages to catch Tsarukyan with something before the final siren, he will definitely take it.

“I don’t want to end the fight too soon,” Gamroth said. “It will be five rounds of violence. This will probably be the biggest challenge for me and I am very ready for this guy. If I see an opportunity sooner, I’ll take it.”

If Gamroth emerges victorious from the UFC at ESPN 38, he said the top ratings at 155 pounds would have nowhere to hide.

“I think the winner deserves to be in the top five (opponents),” Gamroth said.
