After defeating Arman Tsarukyan in Saturday’s main event at UFC Vegas 57, Gamrot spoke to the media and spoke about a brief conversation with Nurmagomedov, a former UFC lightweight champion who is considered by many to be one of the best ever in MMA.

Gamrot was asked why he called Justin Gaethje during the post-fight interview, which led to him discussing Nurmagomedov and Nurmagomedov’s protégé Islam Makhachev.

“I’m a big fan of Justin Gaethje,” Gamroth said. “I have a lot of respect for him, I think he is the most brutal guy in lightweight. This guy fought twice in title fights. I think he’s from the old school, I’m from the new generation, now I want to switch places. I start to climb.

“Today I asked Khabib, he told me: “Congratulations on the fight. You’re a good guy. Surely in the future you will meet with Islam in battle. So I keep my fingers crossed for Islam, I think Islam will beat Charles Oliveira in the next fight and I want the next fight with Justin and the next fight with Islam. Simple plan.”

While nothing is officially known yet, Makhachev is expected to take on Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title in the near future after Oliveira lost his weight belt at UFC 274 in May this year. If Makhachev becomes champion, Gamrot has already foreseen the path he must take to meet in a title fight.

Nurmagomedov was in attendance at UFC APEX in Las Vegas on Saturday, so he had the opportunity to see Gamrot compete in a thrilling five-round fight against Tsarukyan. Gamroth’s team needed to be in top form to lead their fighter to victory after a slow start.

“My corner told me, ‘Hey, you lost the first and second rounds,'” Gamroth said. “And I know that I need to speed up. If I want to win, I have to speed up to the next round.

But I told you at the pre-fight press conference that I have experience. I was used to fighting five rounds, I was used to a lot of pressure, I was a champion, you know?

“I saw Armand’s eyes that he was losing every round. His conditioning was going down, my conditioning was going up and I knew conditioning was going to be key in this fight.”

As for the encouraging words received from former UFC champions, Nurmagomedov’s name was not the only one that was heard during the fight in Gamrot’s media. The prominent Pole was also asked about the influence of his compatriot, recently retired former UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

Gamrot believes that Jedrzejczyk pushed him towards a career.

“Joanna is a very good friend of mine,” Gamroth said. “She helped me a lot too when I signed with the UFC. She helped me a lot every day. She gave me a lot of motivation and now I am so happy that she is retiring because I think she deserves it.

“She deserves all the good things in life. She was a UFC superstar for many years, she became world champion five or six times, she did everything in the UFC. She is a real warrior, a real fighter, she has a strong mentality and I wish her all the best in life.”
