Ehe Spanish elite-sub23 Road Cycling Championship 2022 starts this Friday in Mallorca with the dispute of the time trials for elite and sub23 women; those in charge of opening a day of competition that will last throughout the morning dedicated exclusively to the fight against the clock.
The women will compete on a 21.5-kilometre track with start and finish in Cala Millor; a route that does not present rises of great relevance and that accumulates about 230 meters of positive difference in altitude. The time trial, the same one that the sub23 men will tackle, does present in its second part some short slope that reaches 7%, but that should not be an inconvenience for the great rollers of our squad to shine.
Mavi García (UAE Team ADQ), who attends the national event as one of the main attractions for competing at home and for becoming one of the best cyclists in the world in recent years, will try to defend her time trial title to obtain her third consecutive wound and the fourth in his increasingly lofty record.
The Balearic Islands will face a good list of riders led by the cyclists of the Movistar Team Sara Martín, current runner-up; Lourdes Oyarbide, bronze in 2021 and gold in 2017; Sheyla Gutiérrez, champion in the 2019 edition; and Gloria Rodríguez, one of the best ‘croners’ in Spain.
In addition, other cyclists who year after year have been obtaining great results in the discipline will compete, such as Isabel Martín (Río Miera-Cantabria Deporte) and Mireia Benito (Massi Tactic), fourth and fifth in the last edition; Ziortza Isasi (Eneicat – RBH Global), sixth in 2021; Alba Teruel (Bizkaia-Durango), sub23 champion in 2018; Yurani Blanco (Laboral Kutxa-Fundación Euskadi), sub23 champion in 2019; or Eukene Larrarte (Bizkaia-Durango), one of the best pistards in our country.
Among the sub23s, the fight is very even due to the absence this year in the category of a Sara Martín who won in the 2021 and 2020 editions and who this year already competes as an elite cyclist. Mireia Trias (Massi Tactic), third sub23 last year, and Idoia Eraso (Laboral Kutxa-Fundación Euskadi), champion of Spain junior in 2020 and fifth sub23 in the last edition, are presented as two of the strongest candidates for victory .
The women’s elite-sub23 time trial will open the competition at 9:00 a.m. in the morning.
