Reigning Ballon d’Or winner and Ligue 1 striker Paris Saint-Germain took charge of his club at the start of Saturday’s title defense. So far, so good.

Messi scored two goals in a 5-0 win over Clermont. His second in the last minutes of the game was one of the brightest in his career. With PSG leading 4-0 at 85:35, Leandro Paredes went through Clermont’s defense and found Messi in the box with his back to goal.

Messi parried the pass off his chest and then flipped upside down to kick the bike with his left foot to secure the final advantage of the game.

An exciting game was applauded by the Clermont fans at Stade Gabriel-Montpier.

The victory leaves PSG at the top of the table to start league play as they aim for their fifth Ligue 1 title in six seasons. For Messi, it was the perfect start to his second season in Paris.
