Neymar opened the scoring for PSG in Clermont and set up Ashraf Hakimi and Marquinhos for new goals before the break.

Messi then exchanged passes with Neymar before scoring the visitors’ fourth goal with 10 minutes left.

However, Messi saved the best for last, rushing into the box with four minutes left to control a pass to the chest by Leandro Paredes with his back to goal, before realizing an acrobatic overhead kick.

The goal made the crowd at the Stade Gabriel-Montpier in Clermont chant the name of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner who had a difficult first season in Paris.

PSG’s victory in the first league game under new manager Christophe Galtier was achieved without Kylian Mbappé, who was absent due to an adductor injury.

Mbappé also missed last week’s 4-0 loss to Nantes in the season-opening European Cup by suspension.

Messi opened the scoring in that game and Neymar scored a brace.
