Coach Tom Izzo’s team will host Maryland, Minnesota and the Northwest once each at the Breslin Center. MSU also plans to hold one-off conferences in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Michigan State’s home and away series opponents are Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio State, Purdue, Rutgers and Michigan Wolverineswho is a protected rival of the Spartans in planning.
MSU finished the 2021-22 season 23-13 (11-9 Big Ten), advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the 24th straight season – the second longest active streak in Division I. After defeating Davidson, 74-73, in the first round of the tournament the Spartans were eliminated by Final Four finalist Duke 85–76.
Next season, MSU will need to replace shooting guard Max Christie, who averaged 10.1 points, four rebounds and 1.4 assists as a freshman. Senior forwards Gabe Brown and Marcus Bingham Jr. also entered the NBA draft, while junior center Julius Marble moved to Texas A&M.
In 2022, Michigan State will play the Champions Classic against Kentucky on November 15 in Indianapolis. Kansas and Duke make up the other side of the bracket.
MSU will also be participating in the Phil Knight Invitational, which will take place November 24-27 in Portland, Oregon. Iowa State, North Carolina and Oregon make up the rest of the tournament field.
Besides, John Rothstein of CBS Sports reports that the Spartans are in talks with Gonzaga., who placed first overall in last year’s NCAA Tournament in a Veterans Day game on an aircraft carrier. None of the schools have confirmed this possibility.
Dates, times, and television information for the 20-game Big Ten regular season have not been released. The conference announced that the Big Ten Tournament will run from March 8-12 and will return to the United Center in Chicago for the first time since 2019.
