Mike McCarthy fined, Cowboys lose 2023 OTA for violating non-contact rules

Organized by the Dallas Cowboys, team events became too physical for the second year in a row.

The NFL has fined Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy and blocked an OTA practice in 2023 after it determined the OTA violated no-contact rules this year, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Thursday night.

Last year, McCarthy and the Cowboys suffered similar fines for OTA violations.

Earlier this offseason, the Chicago Bears and head coach Matt Eberflus were punished for violating no-contact rules.

OTAs with live contact are prohibited by the collective agreement.

The Cowboys have completed their spring training and will return to work in July as part of their annual pilgrimage to training camp in Oxnard, California.
