The bookmakers may not be giving Sean O’Malley many chances against Petr Yan, but Aljamain Sterling is.

Sterling will defend his bantamweight title against former champion T.J. Dillashaw in the co-main event of UFC 280, but just prior to that fight, Sterling’s old rival Ian will face O’Malley in a featured main card bout, with potential title implications. line. This is a big step forward in the competition for O’Malley, and therefore Yang big favorite closes in on the fight, but “Master of Funk” thinks it could be a tough fight for Yang if he doesn’t mind his P’s and Q’s.

“I think it’s a good technical matchup for both guys,” Sterling said. Submission Radio. “If you look at it on paper, O’Malley is not verified. One time he had a test he failed, that was [Marlon] “Chito” Vera. Obviously it was a weird injury he got after that kick, because it’s not every day that someone is going to kick your leg and your foot will drop. He’s got good footwork, he’s got good range, he’s got good movement, and then there’s Jan, who’s super stamina, super stamina, like people say, he’s “loading data” – I hate it when people say that, that’s the dumbest thing . If he could punch you in the face, he would punch you in the face. He can’t, so he tries to read you. They make it sound like he’s an invincible robot. Dude, whatever.

“If he starts like that for the eight and gives O’Malley a chance in a three-round fight, the opportunity to up the score, to pick shots, it could be a terrible night for Ian. But if Ian can touch him, get close to the body, cut off O’Malley’s legs – I’m not saying that O’Malley’s legs are his weak point, because people often talk about it, but I think a tall, fit fighter, in which is hard to hit from above, how else to get it? You attack the body, it will be much more still, and you attack the legs, it will be much more still. You can’t get your feet out of the way the same way you can get your head out of the way. So I think Ian should come in with a good IQ, otherwise he’ll go 0-3.”

For his part, O’Malley agrees with Sterling, saying he is surprised he has such a big loss against Yan even though Yan is a former champion.

UFC 280 will take place on October 22 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
