Francis Ngannou is looking for bigger and better opportunities after the UFC.
Interest in a fight between former UFC heavyweight champion and reigning heavyweight boxing king Tyson Fury has been simmering since mid-2022. The toughest MMA fighter on the planet has been on the mend for the past year from knee surgery, but has yet to announce his intentions ahead of his eventual entry into the UFC earlier this month.
It looks like Fury is still interested in the match, we just need to figure out the exact details. The idea of a straight-up boxing match has been thought about less than some variation that pundits like Chael Sonnen scratch their heads over.
“I see Tyson Fury coming out on the weekend and finally figuring out first what we’re going to do with Francis in the first place,” Sonnen said. his youtube channel. “They always said they were going to create a sport. These two were going to make a game, but they were going to do something related to combat. For unknown reasons, they were not going to box. Francis offered to box, but for unknown reasons, Tyson did not accept this invitation, and they were going to come up with rules.
“Tyson finally told us what they are. They were going to fight in a cage. I have no idea why. They will fight in a cage. All right. All right. They will put on four-time gloves. I have no idea why, but okay, okay. Then they will follow the rules of boxing, the rules of Queensbury.”
Ngannou claimed to have turned down “about $8 million” to stay with the UFC, wanting more freedom with his overall options. In boxing, top tier fighters are well paid and Ngannou could certainly join the mix by partnering with someone like Fury.
“I posted this because of how frustrating it is that these boxers are beggars,” Sonnen said. “Guys who are willing to fight to go out and get it on their own, who have the physical ability that other men can only dream of. But they don’t know how to go there and get it on their own. They just don’t know how. I bring this to you because watching Tyson Fury plead was amazing. I don’t want to call it a disappointment. It was very close to being called that, but I don’t want to call it that. So Tyson comes to us with perhaps the dumbest idea in the history of sports. He knows it is.”
The fight between Ngannou and Fury will mark the Predator’s debut as a professional boxer. The undefeated Fury (33-0-1) last fought in December 2022 with his third career win over Derek Chisora. Ngannou, on the other hand, last fought for a unanimous decision victory over Cyril Gein in January 2022.
As far as the public knows, there was no real attraction to a potential fight between Fury and Ngannou, but Ngannou hinted when he last spoke Hour of MMA that he’s working on something for the summer. Fury is the one who has all the “real” boxing options at the moment and may be boxing Oleksandr Usyk in the near future.
“Watching a guy in that position who can command, who has connections, who should have done it behind the scenes, should have been able to come out and make an announcement instead of promoting a joke to the world with pieces – that was just weird.” Sonnen said.
“Guys, are you going to do it or not? If you’re going to do it, why do it in a cage? Why do it with four-time gloves? Why are you calling the Queensbury box? Why don’t we make it really simple? Tell me, that. Because then we would have to do it. Therefore. We make it hard so we don’t have to do it.”

I don’t really care about all this boxing shenanigans with MMA fighters. Though I would probably watch it. The weirder the better. I’m sure Jed would agree. Just do it in Fight Circus!
