Tom Aspinall will be on the sidelines for a while.
Aspinall took over the UFC in London last month against Curtis Blaydes in a bout with potential title implications. Unfortunately, the fight ended before it really began, with Aspinall injuring himself with a kick just 15 seconds into the fight. Yesterday, Aspinall finally revealed the extent of his injury on his social media, stating that he has a torn MCL and meniscus, as well as some damage to the ACL, and will be going into surgery to repair it.
“Good morning everyone. Today is surgery day. I’m in London right now and am terribly hungry because I can’t eat before surgery. I had a torn MCL, a torn meniscus, and some damage to the ACL. So, I’m going to fix it today, but just a short message to thank you for all the support I really appreciate it I had so much love after the accident and I will see everyone on the other side of the world.
Although recovery times for knee injuries vary, Aspinall is looking at a few months to recover from surgery, and returning to work before the end of the year is unlikely. It’s an unfortunate turn of events for Aspinall, who has been building momentum as one of the top heavyweight prospects in recent years. However, if there is a silver lining, at least Aspinall has made a new friend through it all.
Prior to his injury loss to Blades, Aspinall was leading 5-0 in the UFC, all by a tie. He is currently ranked #6 in the heavyweight MMA Fighting Global Rankings.

I used to smile randomly in public and they smiled back. Now they just stop me and hold me hostage with their talk. But with a smile like that, who wouldn’t want to stop me… pic.twitter.com/qRYdXO5Yzd
