LAS VEGAS — Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz will resume their age-old rivalry in an exhibition match in Las Vegas on March 5.
Nadal, 36, holds a record 22 men’s Grand Slam titles, including two in 2022 at the Australian Open in January and the French Open in June, while Alcaraz, 19, won his first major trophy at the US Open in September.
Two Spaniards have finished 1-2 in the ATP rankings this year: Alcaraz is the youngest person to place first and Nadal is the oldest runner-up. They are also the first two compatriots to top the men’s rankings. after Americans Pete Sampras and Michael Chang in 1996.
The match, advertised in boxing style as “The Slam: Nadal vs. Alcaraz” will take place at the MGM Grand Garden.
Nadal and Alcaraz have played each other three times in official tournaments, all in Masters 1000 tournaments. Nadal leads 2-1, with Alcaraz winning their last meeting in May on red clay in Madrid.
