Following in the footsteps of other superstars such as Serena Williams and Stephen Curry, four-time world champion and former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka announced she would be releasing her first children’s book by posting to Instagram on Tuesday. The book, titled How Champions Play, is due for release on December 6 and, by amazing flexibility, will be published by her production company, Hana Kuma.
“I hope this book will inspire children to chase their dreams and encourage them to believe that they can do whatever they want,” Osaka wrote about the project.
Osaka said a portion of the proceeds will go to her Play Academy Foundation.
It’s the latest out-of-court venture for the enterprising Osaka, who was named the world’s highest-paid female athlete in 2021 by Forbes. Last year, she launched her production company, launched a skin care brand, and co-founded. her own sports agency, in addition to her existing sponsors, endorsements and partnerships.
However, Osaka has not had the same success on the court recently. She lost in the first round of the US Open, a tournament in which she is a two-time champion, and did not advance past the third round at a major in 2022. She reached her only final of the year in Miami where she lost to reigning No. 1 Iga Swiatek. Osaka, 24, last played at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo in September but withdrew before her second round match due to illness.
