Best Case: The Boston Celtics made it to the NBA Finals last season. At best, they clearly take the next step and win everything. Last season, the Celtics emerged as the best team in the NBA after the new year when measured by net rankings. Even with their slow start, only the Phoenix Suns ended the season with the best net rating. Boston had the best defense in the NBA last season with Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart and Big Man Robert Williams III. The addition of Malcolm Brogdon with the continued development of Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown makes this team one of the best all-around rosters in the NBA. Boston has the shortest chance of winning the NBA this season (+575), so this should tell you everything you need to know about their best-case scenario.

Worst case: Well, that’s weird. The Ime Udoka situation has thrown a huge and unforeseen cloud over this franchise and its title aspirations. It is impossible to quantify or predict how this will affect the overall performance of the teams and their ability to win this season. What is a head coach worth for a team contending for the title? The cynical opinion is that the backstage turmoil is getting too big for the players to split up, and this is affecting their performance on the court. Defensive anchor Robert Williams III has already been out for 8-12 weeks due to knee surgery. If he doesn’t return, or returns in a compromised physical condition, it will be a big blow to this team given his unique talents. It is possible that this team will leave the playoffs ahead of schedule or miss the playoffs altogether, because the East is strong and deep this season.

Bet: Jason Tatum OVER 26.5 points per game

Spin bets: Due to the instability caused by the Ime Udoka situation, I have no interest in betting on this team in the future market. However, I think we can highlight some individual players with a solid handicap. Brogdon is one of the most underrated defensemen in the NBA. I love his +1200 pre-season price to be the 6th player of the year. Tatum is clearly the type of young superstar who adds to his offensive roster every off-season. Given the stinging loss in the finals, I want him to have the best offensive year (which is why some of my friends like him to win the MVP), so I’ll take on his 26.5 points per game this season. With each season spent in the league, he increased the performance, reaching 26.9 points per game last season.
