The Los Angeles Lakers won’t play the next three games without defenseman Patrick Beverley. The NBA suspended Beverly on Thursday after he pushed DeAndre Ayton in the back during a game against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday.

In a statement, the NBA said that “Beverly’s history of unsportsmanlike actions” played a role in the length of the suspension.

The incident occurred just under four minutes before play in the fourth quarter of the Suns’ 115–105 victory. Suns star Devin Booker fouled Lakers defenseman Austin Reeves due to paint. Ayton approached Reeves and Beverly objected. He pushed Ayton to the ground, causing Beverly to eject. Booker received a rough 1 foul for his actions.

After the game, Booker called out to Beverley, saying he needed to “stop pushing people in the back, man.”

Beverley, 34, is averaging 4.1 points and 2.9 assists in 14 games for the Lakers. He will begin serving his suspension on Friday.
