“The most important thing for me was that I wanted to go where I was comfortable, I wanted to go where I could be the best player possible,” Formby said. He made his official visit to Alabama on the weekend of June 10th. “It’s important for me. I want to play in the NFL and move into a program where I feel very comfortable, turn professional and have the opportunity to develop as much as possible.”

Alabama apparently ticked all those boxes. Formby told Saban and his staff before making his plans public.

“It was pretty cool,” Formby said.

“It’s a great program, great staff, they’ve proven they develop players on and off the field, especially strikers. I have a great relationship with coach (Eric) Wolf(ord), I’ve known him for over a year and his trip to Alabama (from Kentucky) is definitely important.”

Formby’s grandfather played in Alabama and he grew up rooting for Crimson Tide.

“It would be great to have an impact on a program like this,” Formby said, adding that he sees an opportunity to do so early in his college career. “They are thin in the tackle position and they don’t have too many of them right now. I feel that this is a good opportunity to participate in such a program this year.

“Coach Saban, I mean he is the best coach ever in dispute and just knowing that I was recruited by him means a lot to me and that he is willing and wanting you to be in your program is cool. It will be really cool to be a coach with him.”

The 247Sports Composite named Formby the country’s tenth offensive player and 83rd prospect overall. He will play in the All-American Bowl after his senior season.

Formby became the fifth Crimson Tide member in this recruitment cycle for 2023.
