Playoffs Lenny may have to take on a new moniker for at least a few weeks. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have ended ties with running back Leonard Furnett and tight end Cameron Braith, the team announced Friday.
Both players will become free agents.
Furnett, 28, had a productive three years with the Bucks after joining the team shortly before the 2020 NFL season. Furnett’s workload was limited throughout the 2020 regular season, but he became an important weapon for the Bucks as the team made the playoffs. Furnett scored touchdowns in all four games as the Buccaneers took the Super Bowl victory.
He was named the team’s regular starter in 2021 and has rushed for 812 yards and eight touchdowns. Furnett also gained 454 receiving yards and added two receiving touchdowns. Furnet still played a big role in the team’s offense in 2022, but lost some playing time as the season progressed to rookie Rachaad Whyte.
Cameron Braith released from Buccaneers after 9 seasons
Bright is leaving the Bucs after nine years with the franchise. Braith, 31, originally joined the team as an undrafted free agent in 2014. He only caught one pass in his rookie season. Bright found his footing during his second season in the NFL with 23 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns.
He then had his best seasons as a pro. Over the next two seasons, Braith caught 105 balls for 1,251 yards and scored 14 runs.
The Buccaneers selected tight end O.J. Howard in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, limiting Breith’s production. The team then signed Rob Gronkowski ahead of the 2020 NFL season, keeping Braith as a bench.
