NFL MVP race over? Patrick Mahomes takes a big lead in betting odds after Week 11 win

Patrick Mahomes is very similar to Giannis Antetokounmpo.

For the last two seasons, Antetokounmpo hasn’t been an NBA MVP. Both years the award went to Nikola Jokic. Nothing against Jokic, but vote for the best basketball player in the world and Antetokounmpo will most likely be selected. The Milwaukee Bucks would never trade Antetokounmpo for Jokic. The Denver Nuggets would presumably have listened if the Bucks had made that call.

The same goes for Mahomes. Despite Aaron Rodgers being the NFL’s MVP over the past two seasons, everyone knew that Mahomes was still the best quarterback in the world. This season, Mahomes may receive another NFL MVP trophy in addition to this unofficial title.

Mahomes has a long way to go this season, but it will be very difficult to beat him.

Patrick Mahomes becomes top MVP favorite

Seven weeks is a long time in the NFL. Injuries are an important factor in any awards race. So Mahomes is not clear. But the betting odds are a good snapshot of how things are going in the race.

There are only four players with odds below 25-to-1:

Mahomes -160

Jalen Hurts +550

Josh Allen +600

Tua Tagovailoa +600

The surprise may be that Allen is so far behind. He threw unsuccessful interceptions in the Buffalo Bills’ two-game losing streak. The Bills won on Sunday, but Allen had a relatively quiet game as running play dominated.

On the other hand, Mahomes had a Week 11 game that would be at the top of his MVP resume this season.

Mahomes had a huge moment

Mahomes led the Chiefs to the game-winning game after the Chargers took the lead with 1:46 left. Going back to being the best quarterback in the world, when the Chargers scored, everyone almost knew what Mahomes would say. And he did. His touchdown pass to Travis Kelsey with 31 seconds left gave Kansas City the win.

Mahomes had a great season and he’s doing it without Tyreke Hill. It won’t hurt his MVP cause. Mahomes has 3,265 yards and 28 touchdowns, both of which lead the NFL. Chiefs 8-2. This is the best result in the AFC.

Despite being the best quarterback in the NFL, Mahomes became Mahomes’ only MVP in 2018. It would be strange if he didn’t win several MVP awards during his career (which somehow happened to Kobe Bryant). It seems like the right time to make Mahomes the second MVP. An injury will stop him, but that could be it. A slump seems unlikely considering how well he plays.

For a time, Mahomes was the best quarterback in the game. Getting another MVP will confirm this.
