Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane will be mentioned frequently ahead of the March 3 NHL trade deadline, but he’s not sure if he wants to play for another team.
Kane revealed that he spoke with his agent Pat Brisson about teams that are interested in a trade for him, but noted that he has not decided at this time if he is going to drop the no-move clause in his contract before the trade deadline. .
“I think there are definitely opportunities that are intriguing and can be exciting. Let’s see”, Kane said earlier this week, according to ESPN. “He told me some [teams] who somehow reached out to him. Obviously figuring out which command might be the best fit. But we’re really in the wrong place.”
Kane did not specify what type of situation he is looking for that would lead to a deal being signed.
Kane is in the final season of an eight-year contract and is capped at $10.5 million. With the Blackhawks far out of the playoff race and sitting in the basement of the Central Division, the franchise could look to get away from Kane before he becomes a free agent this summer.
So far, the Blackhawks winger has only 35 points (9 assists, 26 points) in 46 games this season. He is currently only scoring 62 points, which would be the second lowest of his 16-year career. However, Kane has been playing well lately as he has provided four assists in the last three games.
In addition to Kane, Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews is also in the final year of his eight-year contract. Like Kane, Toews has made no commitment as to whether he wants to be traded before next month’s trade deadline.
