SANTIAGO, Chile. Second-place Francisco Cerundolo was out of the Chile Open after losing 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to Argentina’s Thomas Martin Etcheverry on Thursday.
Echeverri advanced to the quarterfinals against Dusan Lajovic, who had previously defeated Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (2).
Laszlo Jere beat Riccardo Bonadio 7-5, 7-5 and set up a meeting with Sebastian Baez, who knocked out the home crowd’s favorite Christian Garin 6-4, 6-3.
The other two quarter-finals will also take place on Friday, with Nicolas Jarry taking on Yannick Hanfmann and Thiago Monteiro taking on Jaume Munard.
The Chilean Open is the latest round of clay court tournaments in South America, hosting the Argentine Open and the Rio Open last month.
