Notes from Rams’ first padded practice of training camp

In their fifth official practice at training camp, the Los Angeles Rams donned shin guards for the first time. In addition, it was the first training session open to the public and the fans did not waste time filling the stands to see how their team works.

The Rams haven’t reached their highest level of intensity yet – it’s only the first week of camp – but with the shoes on, the competition is heating up.

Fans crowded UC Irvine

Fans flocked to see the Rams for the first time this summer, filling the stands at UC Irvine for the camp’s first open practice. They arrived early, filling the venue to watch their favorite players practice, including Matthew Stafford and Aaron Donald.

Andrew Whitworth works with Logan Brass

Andrew Whitworth attended the event for the second time this week, starting the day by signing autographs for fans before practice. He then took the field with the Rams and worked with rookie Logan Bruss, giving him some tips between reps.

Decoby Durant made a good INT on Matthew Stafford

Rookie cornerback Dekoby Durant scored on Friday by intercepting a pass from Stafford to Cooper Kupp in one of the highlights of the day.

He also had another John Woolford interception to end a fantastic day and continue his strong start in camp.

Greg Gaines chose the red zone

Greg Gaines isn’t the type of player you’d expect to see with an interception pass, but he made one after hitting the ball at the line of scrimmage during practice in the red zone.

Russ Yeast gets a compliment from McVeigh

Durant and Derion Kendrick are influential, but Russ Yeast cannot be ignored. McVeigh praised him after practice on Friday for the work he did on safety.

Tyler Higbee has been quoting camp so far

“Eat, sleep, what kind of football 18 days in a row.”
